With museums galore to visit in the winter, minor league baseball and fireworks in the summer, a Broadway-quality musical theatre festival, and a collection of restaurants and breweries, a short drive from Aurora brings you into the thriving small city of Auburn, New York. We've laid out some of the best sites to visit in the capital Cayuga County, known as "History's Hometown."

Seward House Museum

Serving as a New York State Senator, Governor of New York, a U.S. Senator, and as Secretary of State in the Lincoln and Johnson administrations, William Henry Seward was one of the foremost politicians of nineteenth century America. Among his many accomplishments, Seward is most known for his negotiations for the purchase of what became the State of Alaska from Russia and for his as his close personal and professional ties to President Lincoln. Take a walk through history as you see the restored and remarkably intact home where William Henry Seward and his family resided. Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival

Launched at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in 2012, the Finger Lakes Musical Festival (FLMF) brings Broadway-quality musicals to Auburn, New York's Emerson Park on Owasco Lake. A quick and scenic drive, this theatre is the perfect summer or fall treat. Their 2018 season, which runs from June through the beginning of October promises to be a smash hit!

willard Memorial Chapel

Built between 1892 and 1894, this intact monument designed by the Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company is the "only complete and unaltered, totally Tiffany designed religious interior known to exist in the world." Beyond serving as a tourist destination, this treasure stands as a wedding venue, a concert hall, and a lecture hall. Guided tours are offered Tuesday through Friday, every hour on the hour, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Prison city Pub & Brewery

A relatively new gem to this city, Prison City opened its doors in 2014. The pub and brewery has already made a name for itself around New York State: their highly touted Mass Riot IPA was recently voted #1 IPA in America by Paste Magazine. This cloudy Massachusetts-like brew will leave your tongue craving more of its hoppy haze. Don't worry if you can't find that one on tap, though; there are plenty of other draft options — in-house and guest —including drafts from Two Roads, Singlecut, and Troegs. Beyond their extensive beer list, you can't forget about food at any hour, especially brunch.

Still thirsty? Be sure to stop down the street at Thirsty Pug Craft Beer Market or the Good Shepards Brewing Co. to try more domestic delights.

This diverse destination has a little something for everyone, and it's right down the road!
