Proof Positive: Wine, Beer, and Spirits of the Finger Lakes

The Cayuga Museum of History and Art's newest exhibit, Proof Positive, focuses on the unique relationship between alcoholic beverages and the Finger Lakes. Social, geographical, and even political factors have created an environment where wine, beer, and spirits have become an important part of local communities. Proof Positive is a celebration of the history, culture, and economics of the wine industry, microbrew movement, and distilleries in the Finger Lakes region. Come explore various viewpoints of history, agriculture, politics, and economics as you learn more about how wine, beer, and spirits have impacted the Finger Lakes region.

Strawberry Jam-Boree Summer Festival

Face-painting, alpacas, fun bounce house, fresh fruit and homegrown produce, caricatures drawn, clown, food, demonstrations, live music, and more.

Garden Concert Series

Join the King Ferry Winery for free live music, wine by the glass or bottle, and a wonderful start to your summer weekend.

Shakespeare and Seward

The Seward House Museum will host the Ithaca Shakespeare Company and their production of The Taming of the Shew on Friday, August 3, at 6:00 p.m. The performance will take place in the Seward House garden and is free and open to the public. The Seward House invites guests to bring picnics, snacks, drinks, blankets, and lawn chairs. Cookies, punch, and entertainment for children and families will be provided beginning at 5:00 p.m.

King Ferry Farmer's Market

Shop for local wares and produce, including farmstead cheese, organic flour and vegetables, plants and flowers, fiber art, pottery and jewelry, baked goods, jams and jellies, and wool. Market will be held on the first and third Saturdays of each month from June through October.

The Emperor's New Clothes

The Emperor's New Clothes will be preformed by the Merry-Go-Round Youth Theatre. A fashion-obsessed emperor, who is blinded by his search for the prefect wardrobe, hires two swindlers to sew his royal vestments. Hardly up to the task of creating these extravagant garments, the trickster "tailors" manage to convince the emperor that their clothing can only be seen by the wisest people in the kingdom. Can one man's honesty help the emperor to see the error of his vanity before he strolls through Pantaloon wearing nothing at all?

Civil War Era Exhibit

The Frontenac Museum in Union Springs is featuring a special exhibit of Civil War era hospital equipment and circumstances, mounted by Museum Trustee and Civil War re-enactor Linda Zach.

Founder's Day

The city of Auburn invites you to a community outdoor street festival featuring an antique car show and competition, artist and food vendors, a family fun tent, and live music by Last Train Out and the Infrared Radiated Orchestra.

Following the Flow: A Tale of Two Erie Canals

The day begins at the Montezuma Fire House for a two hour walking tour that includes many of the great sites in and around the Hamlet of Montezuma and in the new Heritage Park. As you walk along, you will learn about the first Erie, known as Clinton's Ditch, the Enlarged Canal, the Cayuga Seneca Canal and the current Barge Canal. The walking tour will work our way back uphill to Lock 51, stopping at canal sites along the way.

Fingers & Toes

Tap dancer Dustin "Toes" MacGrath, and pianist Tristan "Fingers" St. Claire have managed to talk a major Broadway producer into coming to see their show in two weeks: a boy meets girl tap dance spectacular on the theme of love. But there's a problem: first, they haven't written it yet, secondly they don't have a girl, and sadly, they have no idea whatsoever about love. As the deadline approaches, everything becomes swept up in a series of dazzling numbers and comical scenes as their theme "Love" begins to derail the show. A deliriously delightful and genuinely funny love-letter to the old-fashioned "let's put on a show."

Owasco Airfield Days

On August 18 and 19, the Owasco Airfield will host its annual event in support of Long Hill Fire Department. The event will feature a barbecue, camping, flying, spot landing, Young Eagles Rally, and helicopter rides.

The Extraordinary Marriage of Elizabeth Cady-Stanton

"The Extraordinary Marriage of Elizabeth Cady-Stanton & the Development of Political Reform"

This talk offers the first examination of the contributions of Henry B. Stanton to the women's rights movement generally and to his wife's work in particular. It also demonstrates the centrality of politics and reform within the couple's 47-year marriage. Presenter Linda Frank is a doctoral candidate at the University of Rochester and Cayuga County Historian.

Owl Prowl

Discover how owls rule the night as you explore owl adaptations, hunting skills, where they roost, and how to find them. The program will start with a discussion indoors, followed by a night hike in search of owls.

Cabaret

The Merry Go Round Playhouse invites you to the Cabaret as it takes you inside the Kit Kat Klub for a romp with beautiful girls, an unforgettable orchestra, and the infamous Sally Bowles as she sings such favorites as “Don’t Tell Mama," “Mein Herr,” and “Cabaret.” Set against the backdrop of 1930’s Germany, this Kander & Ebb classic will take you into a dark, but exciting world. As a special treat, the Merry Go Round Playhouse is offering a complimentary backstage tour on Monday, September 3, from 11:00 – 11:30 a.m. for guests attending the performance that night. Please note that this musical has mature content and may not be suitable for people under 18.

Moravia Farmer's Market

A medium-sized farmer's market with organic and non-organic vendors that sell produce, meats, wine, and baked goods. Flowers available from the local school and lots of fun and community involvement. Always a good place to buy the freshest foods available and visit with old neighbors and meet new ones.

The Great New York State Fair

Celebrate the best of New York's agriculture, entertainment, education, industry and technology at the fun-filled Great New York State Fair, August 23 - Sept. 3 at the State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. You'll find 375 acres of animals, exhibits and displays, and food stands, plus live performances from some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Keith Urban, Jason Aldean, The J. Geils Band, Ronnie Milsap, and The Charlie Daniels Band! Gates open at 8am, buildings are open 10am-10pm, and the Midway is open until midnight.
