Someone Like You: Starring Leslie Goddard and her friends from Broadway
Saturday, September 17, 2011Aurora-born Leslie Goddard (Jersey Boys, Hairspray), performs with talented friends Lauren Kling (Hairspray) and Gretchen Bieber (Hairspray), featuring Jasper Grant (Musical Director of The Color Purple on tour) on piano with a special appearance by David Baum (Mary Poppins, A Chorus Line). Using musical theater, pop/rock songs, and dance, the performers will create characters similar to themselves that reveal their journeys to fulfilling their Broadway dreams. Funded in part by NYSCA.

Farm Dinner
Tuesday, September 20, 2011Our Farm Dinner celebrates our relationship with Rose Ryan of Harvest Home Organics, who provides the majority of our seasonal organic produce. In addition to our selection of local vegetables we will craft the menu to use entirely all local ingredients—no exceptions—from the basic mirepoix in the stocks and sauces to local pastured chicken, eggs, dairy and grains. Look for wine choices to represent all-stars of the Finger Lakes region.

Jay Rogoff, Visiting Writers Series
Thursday, October 20, 2011Jay Rogoff’s fourth book of poetry, The Art of Gravity, has just appeared from Louisiana State University Press. “In a great variety of forms, both traditional and experimental, the book explores the interactions between dance and our lives. Rogoff’s previous books include The Long Fault (LSU, 2008), How We Came to Stand on That Shore (River City, 2003), and The Cutoff (Word Works, 1995), which appeared as winner of the Washington Prize for Poetry. Rogoff’s poetry and criticism have appeared in many journals, including Agni, Field, The Georgia Review, The Kenyon Review, Literary Imagination, Ploughshares, Salmagundi, and The Southern Review, and he won a 2010 Pushcart Prize. He serves as dance critic for The Hopkins Review and also writes about dance for Ballet Review and The Saratogian.

Our Beds are Crowded: Seven Short Plays about Love, Fear and Sex
Thursday, October 27, 2011 to Saturday, October 29, 2011The Wells College Theatre Department presents the regional premier performance of Our Beds are Crowded: Seven Short Plays about Love, Fear and Sex, an original play by award-winning writer and Wells alumna Christie Perfetti. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. October 27, 28 and 29 in the auditorium of Barler Hall on the Wells College campus. Our Beds are Crowded will be directed by Associate Professor of Theatre Siouxsie Easter as the Performing Arts Department Faculty Production for this semester.

Healing Muse Issue #11, Visiting Writers' Series
Thursday, November 3, 2011Two or three Editors and several writers whose work appears in the current issue of THE HEALING MUSE will read from and discuss their contributions to the magazine. THE HEALING MUSE is the annual journal of literary and visual art published by SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Center for Bioethics & Humanities. The magazine publishes fiction, poetry, narratives, essays, memoirs and visual art, particularly but not exclusively focusing on themes of medicine, illness, disability and healing. Because of the college’s close association with the magazine and its founder, Dr. Bonnie A. St. Andrews, Wells has held a Healing Muse reading every fall for the past several years.

Holiday Cooking 101
Tuesday, November 8, 2011Just in time for the holidays, Farm Table helps make the season’s cooking more pleasure than stress. This course will cover many staple foods of traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations, including roast turkey, prime rib, gravy, horseradish sauce, and scalloped potatoes. We’ll offer tips for planning and executing the perfect meal. You’ll gain hands-on experience, and benefit from demonstrations by our renowned chefs. Best of all, you’ll sit down at the class’s end with your fellow participants to enjoy the feast you’ve prepared together—complete with a glass of wine. Dinner at 8:30, 12 person maximum

George Drew, Visiting Writers Series
Thursday, November 10, 2011George Drew is the author of four books of poems, most recently The View From Jackass Hill, which won the 2010 X. J. Kennedy Poetry Prize and was published this fall by Texas Review Press. Mississippi born, Mr. Drew currently lives in New York State. He has published widely, with poems appearing recently or upcoming in journals around the country. His work has been frequently anthologized, and he has been the recipient of a number of literary awards and prizes.

Dickens' Christmas in Skaneateles
Friday, November 25, 2011 to Sunday, December 18, 2011Step back in time and enjoy the holidays the old-fashioned way with Dickens' Christmas. The celebration begins the day after Thanksgiving and runs every Saturday and Sunday through December 18th, and a limited show on Dec 24th. Charles Dickens and his cast of characters, directed by Jim Greene of Scarlett Rat Entertainment, will interact with residents and visitors in the streets, stores and restaurants. Syracuse Symphony Holiday Concert

This special “Holiday Pops” program will bring the spirit of the season to attendees; Wells is one of nine planned stops on the symphony’s tour.
