Winter Survival Skills

Before the land around Cayuga Lake was settled, the Haudenosaunee people—and later, European and American pioneers—lived off the land and found ways to adapt to the rugged environment. Perfect for adventurous spirits looking to connect with our shared heritage of wilderness survival, this demonstration will give you an idea of what it takes to survive outdoors in the winter, including firestarting, making shelter, and tracking animals across frozen terrain.
